1. Initial Installation

Log in as a user with local administrator privileges (local admin or domain admin) and launch the PGP installation file.

- Select English language
- Accept the License Agreement
- Click Next
- Reboot when prompted
- When the system comes back up you will be prompted “Do you want to enable PGP to be available from this account”, select Yes, click on Next.
- Name: Enter the name tied to your license
- Organization: Enter the organization tied to your license
- Email Address: Enter email address of the account logged in under
- Click on Next
- License Information Key: Enter your license key
- Click on Next
- Select “I am a new user”, Click on Next
- Click on Skip
- Uncheck “Automatically encrypt AOL Instant Messenger communications”, Click on Next
- Click on Next
- Click on Finish
- Installation is now complete.

1.2 Encrypting the Hard Drive

Hard Drive encryption will take several hours.  Make sure the user is aware that the PC can not be powered off, rebooted, etc during this time.  If installing on a laptop, make sure the laptop is plugged into AC power.

- Double-Click the Silver Pad-Lock icon in the task tray on the bottom right-hand corner.
- Click on PGP Disk
- Click on Encrypt Whole Disk
- Click New Pass phrase User
- Select Create New Pass phrase
- Username: administrator
- Pass phrase: [administrator password]
- Confirm: [administrator password]
- Click on Finish
- Check Maximum CPU Usage
- Click on Encrypt
- Click on OK

1.3 Decrypting the Hard Drive

Decrypting the Hard Drive will take several hours.  Make sure the user is aware that the PC can not be powered off, rebooted, etc during this time.  If decrypting a laptop, make sure the laptop is plugged into AC power.

- Double-Click the Silver Pad-Lock icon in the task tray on the bottom right-hand corner.
- Click on PGP Disk
- Click on Encrypt Whole Disk
- Click on Decrypt
- When prompted to “Enter pass phrase to unlock disk”, enter the administrator’s pass phrase
- Click OK

1.4 Adding / Removing Additional Users

When a new user is to receive a laptop, a new user account must be created.  The administrator account is a fall-back/backdoor account to ensure constant access into the machine.

To add a user, start by double-clicking on the silver padlock in the lower right-hand taskbar.

- Click on PGP Disk
- Click on Encrypt Whole Disk
- Click on New Pass phrase User
- Select Create New Pass phrase, click on Next
- Type in the user’s name.  Use their login name for logistical purposes
- Have the user enter their pass phrase and pass phrase confirmation.
- Click on Finish
- When prompted to “Enter pass phrase to unlock disk” enter the administrator pass phrase
- Click on OK

The user can now unlock the hard drive during boot-up with their pass phrase.
