How to change your network card to Half or Full Duplex

Due to issues with auto-negotiation, it is often required to force your network card into Full or Half duplex mode.

Save to del.icio.us

1. Click on Start
2. Click on Settings
3. Open Control Panel
4. Double-click on Network Connection (for XP) or Network and Dial-up Connections (for Windows 2000)
5. Identify the icon for your network adapter (typically Local Area Connection)
6. Right-click on the icon and select Properties
7. Click on Configure
8. Click on the Advanced tab
9. The property to look for here will depend on your network card.  You are looking for the property that mentions Speed & Duplex
10. Change your NIC to Full-Duplex or Half-Duplex
11. Click OK to exit the Adapter settings
12. Click OK to exit the Connection properties
