Disable Print Job Notifications in Windows XP

How can I turn off the print job popup messages?

Save to del.icio.us

When you print a job in Windows XP, you will get a popup message in the lower right hand corner stating that the print job has been sent, which printer it was sent to, the name of the document, and finally the total pages.  This is on by default for network printers, but can be enabled for local printers.

There are two ways to turn this off.

The print job notifications can be turned off using the following steps:

  • Click Start, Printers and Faxes
  • Select Server Properties from the File menu
  • Select the Advanced tab
  • Uncheck the following options:
    - Show informational notifications for local printers
    - Show informational notifications for network printers
  • Click OK

You can also edit the Registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Printers \ Settings

  • EnableBalloonNotificationsLocal
  • EnableBalloonNotificationsRemote

Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0 (disable) or 1 (enable notifications)
